Black Lives Matter
The senseless killing of George Floyd has provoked an outpouring of anger, fear, hurt, and outrage by many Americans. While significant progress has been made in the last 155 years, as a country we have yet to live up to the ideals embedded in our Declaration of Independence - “all men are created equal … with certain unalienable rights”. Many peoples continue to endure discrimination, unequal treatment, and at worst, death.
For those of us who are not regularly confronted with such unequal treatment, it is often difficult to fully comprehend the injustice. Even so, more and more, Americans of all backgrounds and skin color are taking a stand against the pernicious influence of racism.
Tim Cook, Apple CEO, said “We can have no society worth celebrating unless we can guarantee freedom from fear for every person who gives this country their love, labor and life … Issues of human dignity will not abide standing on the sidelines.”
Nike, in a Twitter post recently, said “To be silent is to be complicit.”
Without diminishing our support for the crucial work done by the brave men and women of beleaguered police departments that are tasked to deal with social issues not of their creation, we, the leadership of Chefs de Cuisine Association of St. Louis, want to add our voice to the cries for justice. We support #Black Lives Matter.
Everyone of us must commit to combating racism and to creating a better, more just world for everyone. To move forward and back up our words with action, we are still deliberating on future actions to take that can be integrated into our programs. Ideas from you, our membership, would be appreciated and can be emailed to [email protected].

Chapter Partners are businesses in the St. Louis area that support our Chefs de Cuisine chapter by providing us their time and effort, products and services, sponsorship and funding, and most importantly, their participation, expertise and advice about developing trends and needs in the culinary industry, Without them, we could only accomplish a small portion of what we set out to do.
